1 Pricing for live music

One of the most common questions asked when someone is looking to book live entertainment is “how much will this cost?” That’s a fair question!

With the sheer number of different musicians, their niches and specialties as well as the specifics of involved for an event like travel, pricing will vary to a huge degree. If a musician is using an agency to attract work, expect at least 15% – 25% of the fee you are quoted to bypass the musician and go in to the agents pocket – there’s nothing scandalous with that (that is what agencies do, after all), but you should expect slightly higher quotes from agencies than working with a musician directly.

To help, Andy has simplified things somewhat:

  • Regardless of the nature of your event, there is a fixed price for the time spent performing

Each gig is quoted to include 3x 45 minute sets of performance time. If your event requires shorter, more broken up sets (for example a wedding reception or party), the price will not be affected. This also means that you can space the sets out over a 5 hour period without affecting the price.

  • The time involved in travel and setting up equipment does not cost you extra

To save you the hassle, Andy will liase with you directly to setup at an appropriate time and ensure everything runs as smooth as possible. If you need the band set up 2 hours before they play – no worries! Whatever is easiest for you is what they’ll do.

  • Ipod DJ

Thanks to the invention of portable music players, the time in which the performers are not performing will be filled with music played through the sound system. This means that the music for your event will be a constant, enjoyable experience, without interruption. There will be an Ipod provided with exceptional music, but you are welcome to supply your own.

Pricing structure

  • Solo Acoustic – $400
  • Duo Acoustic – $800
  • Trio Acoustic – $1200
  • Cover band 3 – 4 piece – $1400 – $1800

Things that may affect your quote

Travel

As a general guide, the first thing that will affect a quote is the distance between your event venue and the Melbourne CBD. Typically travel is not an issue, but if venue is more than 30km outside the CBD then travel costs are usually added to the quote.

A required stay time that greatly exceeds 5 hours

Part of the quoted figures above take around 5 hours of attendence in to account – this time doesn’t include travel and setup, as you are not charged for that time. If, however the performers are required to stay and perform for longer than a 5 – 6 hour period (for example, playing 3x 45 minute sets, spaced out between 5.00pm and 1.00am) then there will be an additional cost added to the quote.
